Sursie Metzger is a Gothic Fantasy Harpist from the Woodland covered valleys and rain soaked grounds of East Tennessee. A self taught artist, Sursie spends her time learning new ways to experiment with the Harp and take it to even darker, stranger and Fantastical places.
She combines the electroacoustic lever harp with various effects pedals and extended techniques to create Harp instrumentals that are both Spooky yet entrancing. A lover of Stranger Things, Doctor Who, Harry Potter etc her interests are deeply rooted in the world of Fantasy and Sci-fi which inspires her to create a whole new world within her mind and allow it to flow through her fingers in song, bringing you the many musical creations before you today.
Legally blind from the age of 9 due to Retinopathy of Prematurity, she has learned to navigate the world and her instruments in her own way. She began fire performing in 2012 after being removed from color guard due to her vision, determined to stand out and show that her disability wasn’t a hindrance, she took up an art form that no one would expect especially from a blind individual. She uses LED lights along with effects to not only bring a surprising and quirky visual element but it also serves to allow her to see her strings better and gives the audience even more to enjoy.
Her musical journey began in her late teen and early adult years after being diagnosed with thyroid cancer. During this dark period she took up piano which after several years brought her to take up the lever harp and she hasn’t looked back since. Entirely self taught from day one, every new song is a welcome challenge and a learning experience. And in 2020 she took her independence to the next level and released her first acoustic single “Moira of Arcadia” which has been followed up with many more tracks since then both stripped down featuring the natural beauty of the harp to laden with echoing reverbs and chilling delays. The songs featured here are but a taste of what’s to come.
